Proton

Nope not the subatomic particle but our favorite local car manufacturer:

Proton.

Wait a minute, I know a lot of people out there either

a) Hate it
b) Think it is a joke
c) Made from Milo tins

Relax.

I think we are rushing into making a conclusion.

When was Proton formed? It was formed in 1983.

It is quite a young company and has much to learn.

Come on, even Toyota was not perfect in the start. All they did was copy American cars.

Now, Proton is copying Japanese cars especially Mitsubishi, so the cycle continues.

I think we should have faith in Proton & not lose all hope.

For a company to grow, the consumers must have confidence.

From my point of view, I think Proton is improving. SERIOUSLY !!!

It will just take time(only God knows) for them to become like BMW, Toyota & etc.

Well, tmr. in the Geneva Motor Show, Proton is going to unveil its hybrid car.

  1. Proton was a stupid idea. When Japanese companies came to south east asia with the proposition of the 'national car', only Malaysia jumped into it. Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and the others realized that it was stupid. It's like asking Americans to plant paddy and palm oil instead of corn and wheat. A proton typically has
    1)only 2 airbags, if any
    2)has 90% borrowed designs/outdated tech
    3)is made of 50% low-grade plastic

Surveys have shown that Proton has inferior quality to most other alternatives. The government is imposing high taxes on imported cars, and will continue to do so, even though it's illegal.

The AFTA agreement made it clear that by now(more than TWENTY YEARS, DANA) we should be lowering import taxes. I agree, that Japanese cars were considered SHIT up till the late '70s, but they were SMART. Even though they copied a LOT of tech and designs, they actually made real improvements.

Protons "CAMPRO" engine is NOT an improvement. The production of the engine itself cost more than the entire production of the Waja(excluding engine). I'm not blaming Proton for being useless, I'm blaming the government for cheating its own people. If they reduced the import taxes:
1)They would be keeping their promise as stated in the AFTA agreement
2)PROTON would have to deal with REAL competition, instead of lying back and not having a PASSION for cars
3)Consumers(that's you and me) will not have to pay more for something that is worth a lot less. A Honda Civic would probably cost less than 90,000. Compare a Perdana with a Civic, which would you rather get for that amount of cash?
